More and more scholars and managers have been paying attention to job stress. The physical and emotional health problems of employees caused by job stress can bring huge economic losses to the companies and even to society. Under China’s rapid economic growth, finance organizations, especially banking, have the mission to strengthen their economic power. Competitive pressures are aggravating and uncertainties are increasing among the stateowned banks of China. In this research, we explore the two dimensions of job stress and investigate the relationship between job stress and productivity among China’s banking industry employees. Guanxioriented attitude, an important part of Chinese culture, will be considered in the model as a moderating factor. The first objective of this research is to develop job challenge and hindrance stress measurements among China’s banking industry employees. The second objective of this research is to examine the relationships among challenge stress, hindrance stress and job satisfaction, turnover intention, and job performance. The last objective of this research is to examine the moderating effect of guanxioriented attitude between two dimensions of job stress and job satisfaction.
